One of the five original squares planned by city founder William Penn in the late 17th Century, Rittenhouse Square is the heart of Center City’s most expensive neighborhood, with an array of highly regarded restaurants, countless high-rise condominium residences, beautiful, charming townhomes, Victorian mansions, luxurious spas, the most picturesque park in the city, and perhaps the best shopping row in Philadelphia. Rittenhouse is considered by many to be the number-one place to live in Philadelphia, but its residences often come with a hefty price tag. Those who live or work in Rittenhouse Square will find themselves near the tree-filled park, where locals can sit and enjoy a picnic on the grass, lunch on one of the numerous benches, music, games, beautiful landscapes, and perhaps the most popular spot for dogs and their owners in all of Philadelphia. The park itself resembles an area which you may see in Paris and the French gardens, as the Square’s layout features many designs by a French architect. Your choice of living style is endless. Condominium buildings with doormen surrounding the square are many; The Barclay, Parc, Dorchester 1800 Rittenhouse, 1820 Rittenhouse, 1830 Rittenhouse, 1900 Rittenhouse, 10 Rittenhouse, The Savoy, and The Rittenhouse Hotel (yup, it also includes condos) are just some of the buildings that overlook the park. Afraid of heights? The beautiful brownstones along Delancey Streets, each averaging over 5,000 square feet of living space, are sure to ‘wow’ you. The last and newest building to round out the square is The Laurel Rittenhouse, currently under construction. This building will, without a doubt, offer all that your heart desires. If you have any money left after your home purchase, just stroll along Walnut and Chestnut streets and shop until you drop. Or, come back to the square for a bite to eat at the many fancy restaurants; Parc, Devon Seafood and Grill, Vernick, or Rouge. The list goes on. Rittenhouse Square is home to millennials through baby boomers and beyond, but also those with young families that choose to take advantage of the exceptional Albert M. Greenfield Elementary school catchment.
