While Society Hill may feel suburban, Washington Square, located directly next to Society Hill and near Rittenhouse and the Avenue of the Arts, feels more like you’re in the middle of all the action of a busy city. The area attracts a younger, hip crowd, and has become one of the most popular destination dining areas in Philadelphia, with the most popular blocks surrounding 13th Street between Chestnut and Locust Streets — also referred to as the Gayborhood — an LGBTQ friendly location in the heart of Washington Square West/Midtown. This area is also home to the most popular nightlife in Philadelphia, with many hot spots being centered directly around 13th and Sansom Streets. Those looking to live in a quiet area may want to avoid living near this part of town, however, the restaurants, nightlife and beautiful area more than make up for it for the younger crowd.
